Hazards of smoking
Smoking tobacco is a harmful practice, prevalent across the world. Tobacco contains nicotine, a highly addictive substance along with other bioactive compounds and carcinogens (cancer-causing agents)1.
Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable deaths globally1. Each year, tobacco use kills about 1 million Indians; bidi and cigarette smokers die 6–10 years earlier than their non-smoking counterparts2.
